Tumbes Tyrant Tumbezia salvini
Apparently the first Ecuadorian record of this species.
I saw this with Alan Davies and Ruth Miller in the final days of the their big year, "The Biggest Twitch".
Details of sighting:
27 December 2008 at 3:45pm local time.
2.5 km northwest of Zapotillo, province of Loja, Ecuador, near the relleno sanitario.
270 m asl.
GPS: S4º22'12", W80º15'36"
It
was at the edge of a steep, wooded gully with dense, tangled
undergrowth. A single bird responded to playback of Peruvian
Pygmy-Owl Glaucidium peruanum, along with a pair of Tropical Gnatcatchers Polioptila plumbea and a pair of Tumbes Sparrows Aimophila stolzmanni. It did not vocalize.
