Waved Albatross - Phoebastria irrorata
Waved Albatross
Phoebastria irrorata
Española Island, Galapagos, Ecuador.
Nearly all the world's Waved Albatrosses breed in the Galapagos on the island of Española; a few may also breed on Genovesa. There is also a very small breeding colony on Isla de la Plata off the coast of Ecuador. Like most of the wildlife on the Galapagos, they are unafraid of humans, and it is a wonderful experience to be able to walk through their breeding colonies. When not breeding, they disperse south into the Humboldt Current, and can be seen in large numbers well offshore the coast of Peru. (S5)
